Madison Square Garden

The first two buildings to be given the name Madison Square Garden, opened in 1879 and 1890, were located on Madison Square, on East 26th Street and Madison Avenue. The third Madison Square Garden (1925) was further uptown at Eighth Avenue and 50th Street.

The current building is a little more than half a mile from Madison Square as the crow flies, but more by road or on foot. Madison Square and Madison Square Garden are at two apexes of a right–angled triangle, with the Empire State Building at the right angle.
